Pahoa, Malama Market, excellent service
« on: January 07, 2022, 06:40:52 AM »
In 2021 Malama Market moved to a new larger location in Pahoa.

The layout of the aisles is a bit funky. The aisle signs (Beans, Soup. etc.) are positioned so that one must be directly in front of the sign. However, they have done an excellent job of training their "shelf-stockers" to be noticeably more helpful (in-service) than other stores such as Safeway. Safeway seldom have  "helpers" in the aisles. Me: "If you were a can of beans, where would you be hiding?" Employee: "Aisle 3. Let me show you." With Safeway, one must interrupt a checkout clerk and they simply point. It's OK but sometimes they are wrong.

Malama needs more electric carts for the disabled.

Update 5/26/22

I left my cell phone wallet at the cash register. At home, within less than an hour, still unconscious, not knowing I had lost my wallet, a Malama Mkt employee brought the wallet to me (a 14-mile round trip).  An inspiring combination of service and integrity.

Potential rumor: A rumor I'd like to read.

Malama Mkt announced they will be installing Alexa-like stations throughout the store. One asks, "Market? Where's the pickle relish?" and voila! da answer.
