Volunteer Assistant Co-Facilitators

There are ten volunteer assistant co-facilitator positions.

Three of the positions are:

  • Support Group Supervisor
  • Assistant Support Group Supervisor
  • Sound/Video Supervisor

The remaining seven assistant/co-facilitators will rotate through different tasks throughout the three-hour broadcast.

Tasks include:

  • Staging
  • Camera operator
  • Microphone handler
  • Answering viewer telephone calls
  • Reading viewer's comments on camera

The term “assistant co-facilitator” is borrowed from Kerry's Communication Skills Workshop model. Volunteers who serve as assistants do what it takes to present the CSG. They also have the job of being co-facilitators, raising their hand at any time and contributing feedback during conversations between the facilitator and a participant. This procedure ensures greater accuracy and completeness with each conversation. Part of a co-facilitator's job is to raise both hands and wave vigorously if they hear anyone communicating abusively. Communications delivered by assistant/co-facilitators have priority over all other communications, including those of the facilitator's.

Prerequisites

  • Drug & nicotine-free (caffeine and alcohol are acceptable)
  • Email address (most of the clearing and coordination for each session will be done through an on-line forum and email)
  • Support of your partner or house mate(s) for the six-month project
  • Stable living environment with the equivalent of a one-year lease
  • Telephone/cell phone with answering machine
  • Willingness to receive phone calls at any time of the day (at work calls will be rare but possibly necessary)
  • A reliable means of transportation (preferably have own vehicle)
  • Current vehicle safety inspection and insurance
  • Source of income other than welfare
  • Ability to lift from the ground a 30 lb box and carry it 30' and set it on a table
  • Freedom, ability, and willingness to set aside an entire evening (approx 5 pm to approx 11 pm, one day a week for six months, pre-agreed upon excused absences ok)
  • Federal and State Taxes must be paid or a payment agreement established
  • Alimony/child support handled to everyone's satisfaction
  • Debts handled to everyone's satisfaction
  • A reputation for keeping agreements

Assisting is comparable to advanced studies in leadership communication. It's assumed that the assisting experience will lead to leadership-management positions. Upon completion of the 24-week program assistants will receive a letter of recommendation attesting to the fact that they have demonstrated:

1) A willingness and ability to work at an extremely high level of integrity.

2) An ability to operate from, and communicate from, responsibility.

3) Exceptional reliability and trustworthiness.

4) Exemplary commitment to civic responsibility.

5) An ability to function as a team member.

6) An ability to keep agreements and to honor their word.

Volunteers are needed for other jobs and tasks besides being an assistant/co-facilitator. Waivers of the prerequisites are possible for single-task and special assisting.

To volunteer send us an email. Include your full name, email address and a brief statement describing how you would like to assist.
